The\u00a0strongest aspirations can fail to mobilize even\u00a0the boldest leaders past that first step.<\/p>\n<p>But they shouldn&#8217;t\u00a0stop YOU.<\/p>\n<p>The truth about taking that first step is,\u00a0you&#8217;ve probably been ready for quite some time.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Leadership\u00a0no longer exists in a vacuum<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>One of the most common pitfalls is a false perception of what leadership actually is.<\/p>\n<p>The global leadership landscape has undergone nothing short of a revolution, and particularly with regards to online communities. Old paradigms about leadership are beginning to lose ground.<\/p>\n<p>Individual community members\u00a0increasingly demand more active roles in\u00a0community leadership.<\/p>\n<p>This might explain why\u00a0a\u00a0staggering two thirds of millennials <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.deloitte.com\/us\/en\/pages\/about-deloitte\/articles\/millennial-survey.html\"><em>plan\u00a0to leave<\/em><\/a> their current employer by 2020. They can reach\u00a0past arm&#8217;s length for something better.<\/p>\n<p>Conversely,\u00a0emerging\u00a0leaders don&#8217;t need to exhibit\u00a0undesirable traits, and can choose an environment which best fits their natural talents.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>People are looking for you<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Another thing to keep in mind is that you are not alone.<\/p>\n<p>The belief that no one shares your interests\u00a0or taste is a common and unfortunate one.<\/p>\n<p>Granted, there was a time when\u00a0unique interests were\u00a0enjoyed in a vacuum. But that is no longer the case.<\/p>\n<p>A quick Google\u00a0search today will lead you to a bustling online community centered on virtually any\u00a0interest.\u00a0Somewhere\u00a0out there is a community looking\u00a0for someone just like you.<\/p>\n<p>It no longer matters\u00a0that no one on your block shares your taste for vintage Garbage Pail Kids.\u00a0Somewhere on the internet is a community where\u00a0you can go to pursue that interest.<\/p>\n<p>Understand as well that its not always a matter of you pursuing your interests.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing puts you on the map like being a pioneer in your field.\u00a0The internet is big enough to all but ensure that your interests are probably out there looking for you.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t find a community centered on\u00a0something you love? You&#8217;ve come to the right place. Capitalize on that by being the first to create what is missing!<\/p>\n<p>Build a reputation.\u00a0This takes\u00a0some reaching out, but the effort is worth it. Join an existing community and engage it in ways\u00a0that make you stand out.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t be put off if the\u00a0community you&#8217;ve found isn&#8217;t exactly what you thought it would be. The presence of a problem means the absence of a solution, and that is an opportunity to lead.<\/p>\n<p>Work to solve the problem you&#8217;ve found in a way that presents value to everyone. The recognition and benefit you&#8217;ll get for doing this might\u00a0surprise you.<\/p>\n<h2>Community leadership is about creating<strong>\u00a0experiences<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Get in the mindset of <strong>hosting events<\/strong>.\u00a0Community leadership means\u00a0actively engaging members through\u00a0their\u00a0common interests.<\/p>\n<p>People bond\u00a0by doing things together.\u00a0Communities, in turn, develop through that internal\u00a0bonding process.<\/p>\n<p>If you have joined or formed a book club, for example, you can host a reading or discussion.
